
In the Nakhon Ratchasima community, a large turtle, thought to bestow wealth and luck, has captured attention. Discovered by 63-year-old resident Jod Songnok over two years ago, the 12-kilogram creature boasts an extraordinary shell marked in a manner resembling the esteemed Thai King, drawing crowds due to its atypical size and distinctive shell.
Jod stumbled upon this unique turtle near his Baan Sawanwari home in Nong Bunnak, Nakhon Ratchasima. Unlike typical turtles, its shell doesn’t curve downward but flares at the ends, showcasing remarkable ridges at the rear. Most intriguing are the six patterns resembling the revered Thai King, sparking fascination among locals.
According to local beliefs, this turtle is a revered being that has inhabited the Nong Tagai reservoir, the community’s primary water source, for centuries. Adding to the intrigue, Jod encountered another sizable turtle three months ago, though this one resembled common turtles but weighed over 15 kilograms. Due to its unusual weight and gunshot-like scars, Jod opted to keep it, fearing for its safety if released.
Jod’s first encounter with the esteemed turtle happened while guarding his rice field near the Nong Tagai reservoir at around 5:30 am two years ago. Upon hearing a noise nearby, he found the exceptional creature, deciding to care for it due to its remarkable traits and size.
Word about the turtle spread, drawing locals eager to witness its peculiarity. Among its unique features, the six patterns resembling the revered Thai King stand out, with many believing it to be a sacred turtle bestowing good fortune. Jod himself claims to have won the lottery multiple times since finding the turtle.
