A 14 year old handicapped boy pictured on the internet like he was in an animal pen is in a loving home, it was claimed yesterday.
Pictures of Jonas, 14, on Mem Pho Dam caused widespread concern as he waited helplessly in a darkened room.
Yesterday the local authority went to check up on the youngster who is both mentally and physically handicapped.
It emerged that he has hospital and extra care from the authorities on a continuing basis.
He is looked after by his aunt and uncle who said that they are farmers. When they are out in the fields in the day it is necessary to lock him up for his own safety as once he escaped and they had to search the district.
They love him dearly, though they are trying to get him taken into permanent care.
They said there is no abuse or neglect. Someone is around in the day to look after him and when they return from their fields in the evening they put him to bed with them.
It wasn’t explained why it was necessary to keep him in the “pen” when he had a carer in the day.
