The Thailand Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a warning about persistent heavy rainfall affecting 54 provinces, primarily in the northern region. The TMD anticipates that approximately 80% of the northern area will encounter intense downpours, which could lead to flash floods.

In their 24-hour forecast issued today, the TMD indicates that a low-pressure trough will move across the northern and lower northeastern provinces, while the southwestern monsoon continues to influence the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. These conditions are expected to result in substantial rainfall, particularly in the northern and northeastern regions.

Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant due to the potential risks associated with heavy to very heavy rain and warnings about accumulated rainfall, which may result in flash floods and runoff from forests. This caution is especially relevant for areas situated on hillsides, near water bodies, and in low-lying regions. Additionally, travelers are urged to exercise caution when passing through areas with thunderstorms, with recommendations to avoid open areas, large trees, and unstable advertising signs.

Tropical storm Koinu has weakened to a strong tropical zone and is projected to pass over the Paracel Islands from tomorrow until October 11, with further weakening expected. Although this storm will not directly impact Thailand’s weather conditions, individuals traveling to affected areas are advised to check the weather forecast before departing.

The weather forecast for Thailand from 6 am today until 6 am tomorrow predicts thunderstorms in 80% of the northern region, with heavy to very heavy rain expected in certain areas. Temperature-wise, the lowest is projected to range from 23 to 25 degrees Celsius, while the highest is expected to be between 30 to 33 degrees Celsius. Wind speeds are anticipated to vary between 5 to 15 kilometers per hour.

In the northeastern region, thunderstorms are forecasted in 70% of the area, with heavy to very heavy rain anticipated in some regions. The lowest temperature is expected to fall between 21 to 24 degrees Celsius, and the highest temperature is projected to range from 30 to 33 degrees Celsius. Wind speeds are expected to vary between 10 to 20 kilometers per hour.
