A well-known karaoke bar in Khon Kaen, Thailand, was raided by law enforcement. Ten female workers, lacking proper permits, were arrested, with some found to have entered the country illegally. The establishment’s owner was implicated in the operation, which took place at the Immigration Check Office in Khon Kaen. Soraj Wachayasutthi, the Senior Immigration Officer, along with various authorities, conducted the raid following a tip-off about employing foreign women without permits.
Officer Soraj highlighted ongoing efforts by the Khon Kaen Immigration Police to collaborate with other departments in apprehending illegally working foreign laborers. The recent raid at the karaoke bar in Kranuan district led to the arrest of ten Laotian women, some of whom had used tourist visas to enter but were found working covertly at the establishment.
Charges were brought against the arrested Laotian nationals for working without permits, in accordance with the Foreign Workers Management Act. Additionally, the bar owner faces charges for employing foreign workers without proper permits and is currently undergoing legal proceedings, which could result in fines ranging from 10,000 to 100,000 baht.
Officer Soraj emphasized the ongoing monitoring and inspections in various areas to tackle illegal labor practices. The authorities are focused on investigating and taking legal action against both foreign and Thai nationals involved in illegal activities, ensuring continuous suppression and prevention.
