In Nakhon Phanom, a fresh initiative has kicked off to enhance tourism along the picturesque Mekong River. The local government has teamed up with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to unveil an innovative attraction called the Bike Lane Tunnel, expected to charm tourists all through December. This project was publicly announced on December 7.
The Bike Lane Tunnel, a prominent feature along the Mekong River, offers an immersive experience for cyclists, joggers, and sightseers, allowing them to relish the stunning views of the Thai-Lao Mekong River up close. Moreover, the tunnel is adorned with vibrant neon lights, stretching over a distance of 500 meters, providing a captivating sight, particularly during the festive Christmas and New Year holidays, especially at night.
Tourism in Nakhon Phanom has seen a significant surge. Local authorities report that the region welcomed over 1.5 million tourists this year, marking a doubling from the previous year.
The area is renowned for its spiritual landmarks, such as ancient temples and revered statues like Wat Phra That Phanom and Phraya Srisattanakharat, which have been pivotal in drawing a considerable number of visitors.
A representative from Nakhon Phanom Municipality praised the new tunnel, stating, “The Bike Lane Tunnel is an exceptional initiative that showcases the Mekong River’s beauty while promoting outdoor activities like cycling and jogging. We hope this new attraction will entice more visitors to explore Nakhon Phanom and its culturally rich heritage.”
With this development, Nakhon Phanom aims to solidify its standing as a must-visit destination. The Bike Lane Tunnel not only provides a distinctive way to appreciate the Mekong River’s beauty but also underscores the region’s dedication to promoting sustainable tourism practices. Local authorities and TAT are optimistic that this initiative will bolster tourism growth and contribute to the local economy.
