A bold thief in Nakhon Ratchasima put a local school in a difficult situation by pilfering bags of rice that were intended for student meals. This incident took place at Baan Nong Wa En School in Bua Yai district, where the perpetrator broke into the school’s rice storage area and made off with nearly half of the rice supply.

The discovery of this theft was made by Wanmanee Thongprom, an assistant janitor at the school. He explained that the stolen rice was meant to be processed for the students’ lunch. When he opened the storage area, he was astonished to find that almost half of the one hundred sacks of rice had disappeared.

A quick examination of the scene revealed evidence of an unknown number of individuals involved in the crime. They had used a cutter to remove the zinc ceiling of the storage room and escaped with the stolen rice. Footprints were left behind as the thief climbed over the school wall, leaving a trail of scattered rice, likely from a torn sack.

The stolen rice was a part of a school lunch program for the students, funded by contributions from parents and government-provided meal support. The theft of a considerable amount of rice has created a significant challenge for this initiative.

Wanmanee has requested the police to promptly apprehend the culprit and expedite the legal proceedings to prevent further distress and potential crimes in the area.

In a different incident two weeks ago in Surin’s Isaan province, an unusual theft occurred involving a thief who stole a homeowner’s food cupboard, only to abandon it nearby due to an unexpected muddy mishap. This left the homeowner, Weerayut Choowa, both baffled and amused. While Weerayut had witnessed thieves stealing rice and agricultural products before, a thief stealing an entire food cupboard was a first for him.
