The government has annoounced that sporting events can take place during the official period of mourning for His Majesty The King.
This follows on from the Thai FA’s decision on Friday to declare that the football season is over and that all unplayed games will be cancelled.
This meant that present league standings would become final and the cup games would be decided by drawing lots.
Thankfully, the government has now stepped in , stating that the King was keen on all sporting occasions and would not wish for an important part of Thai life to have its climax ruined.
The FA will now meet again on Monday, October 17 at 10am to decide on (another ?) a course of action.
Perhaps closer contact with government officials would have meant that the League Cup Final between Buriram and Muang Thong on Saturday would not have been cancelled at the last minute.
Added to that, supporters of clubs still with plenty to play for would have been spared unnecessary disappointment.
However, it has already been pointed out that perhaps Saturday’s final was too soon and there may be some merit in that statement.
