The weekend saw the first SX meeting to be held in the Buriram sports complex, the event was well attended & the fans were treated to some great racing by some of Thailand’s top riders.
There were classes for the real small kids of around 8-10 years of age racing their 50cc machines to the adult expert class racing their 450cc state of the art MX machines.

SX & MX racing format & the bikes are the same, the difference between the two being SX tracks are man made whereas MX is generally natural terrain however, at some tracks additional jumps & sections are added.

SX started in the USA in 1972 & also now major events are staged in Europe. These man made courses are often set up on the infield of major sporting venues like football, baseball stadiums.
This allows seated viewing for a much bigger audiences & the events often have attendances of around fifty thousand. Now referred to as arenacross or stadiumcross, it also has the benefit of floodlights for evening meetings.

Thailand has already a foothold in world MX as in 2014 & 2015 they have held rounds of the world MX GP at an excellent track in Chonburi.

With the naturally flat landscape of Buriram it would be difficult to create a MX track but the efforts put into creating the SX track at Buriram ensure the public have the opportunity of seeing yet another sport in their city, which now must be the sports capital of Thailand.
