SX started in the USA in 1972 &  also now major events are staged in Europe. These man made courses are often set up on the infield of major sporting venues like football, baseball stadiums.

This allows seated viewing for a much bigger audiences & the events often have attendances of around  fifty thousand. Now referred to as arenacross or stadiumcross, it also has the benefit of floodlights for evening meetings.

With the naturally flat landscape of Buriram it would be difficult to create a MX track but the efforts put into creating the SX track at Buriram ensure the public have the opportunity of seeing yet another sport in their city, which now must be the sports capital of Thailand.
