A huge blaze consumed the Chong Chom border market in Surin’s Kap Choeng district late last night, resulting in the destruction of more than 300 shops. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
In response to the emergency, more than 10 fire trucks, along with numerous firefighters and rescue teams from the district and surrounding areas, were mobilized to extinguish the massive fire at the market located in tambon Dan. Fueled by the wind and an abundance of flammable materials, including clothing, bedding, furniture, bags, shoes, and handicraft products, the fire rapidly spread throughout the market, which is home to over 500 shops.
The intensity of the fire prompted local residents to evacuate quickly, while vendors rushed to save their merchandise and personal belongings from their shops. A significant fire broke out at the Chong Chom border market in Kap Choeng district, Surin, at 9:40 pm yesterday. Multiple fire trucks and firefighters were sent to the scene to combat the fire, which was eventually brought under control at 2:50 am today. A preliminary assessment indicates that around 320 shops were destroyed by decimated by the fire.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the flame.
