A Bangkok taxi driver who was previously convicted for raping a minor and has recently been arrested for robbing and sexually assaulting a female passenger said he’d like to go back to driving taxis after getting out of jail.

Komsan Totim, 34, was presented in a police press conference Wednesday night as he is facing robbery and sexual assault charges for allegedly victimizing a Burmese woman. He denied the latter.

According to the 27-year-old woman, she took Komsan’s cab from Sutthisan Road to see her friend in the Pattanakarn area on the morning of April 1. However, the driver stopped his car by Thiam Ruam Mit Road. He robbed and attempted to rape her , it was reported.

The victim said Komsan ended up forcing her to perform oral sex on him when he found out that she had her period before fleeing with her THB9,000 cash.

The victim was rescued by another taxi driver and was sent to the Police Hospital.

The Metropolitan Police Chief  said Komsan was arrested Wednesday afternoon at his rented room in Kanchanaburi, before he could make an escape to a neighbouring country.

Sanit said the driver denied the rape charge and only admitted to robbing the passenger.

At the press conference, he made a point that not all taxi drivers are bad, and he’ll go back to driving a taxi when he gets out of prison.

“Other taxi drivers still offer safe service for everyone. I promise, in front of the press, if I don’t die and make it out of jail, I’ll come back to serve citizens,” Komsan said.

“I’d like to solely take responsibility for what happened. I hope this will be the last time this type of incident happens in Thailand,” he added.

Media reports said Komsan was previously convicted for rape of a minor under the age of 15. He served a three-year sentence and was released in 2014.

It would be in the public’s interest if this habitual offender is never released from prison, never mind being allowed back on the streets in a taxi. His comments have an air of menace about them and he is obviously a very dangerous man.
