A Vietnamese-flagged cargo ship smashed into a riverside restaurant and two houses located under the Bhumibol 2 bridge after the captain lost control of the vessel while sailing in the Chao Phaya river this morning.
The incident happened at about 8.20 am in Phra Pradaeng district of Samut Prakarn province.
Initial report from the Marine Department said the 78.6 metres long and general cargo Vietnamese ship, Star 62, was sailing along the river to take delivery of cargoes at Bangkok Port when its power supply was unexpectedly knocked down.
The empty vessel then floated uncontrollably downstream, and smashed into the restaurant and two other riverside houses located near the curve of the river and under the Bhumibol 2 bridge.
Nobody on the ground were injured but the restaurant and houses were damaged.
The police are investigating the actual cause to file charges and demand compensation from the damage caused by the vessel.
