To celebrate our best day ever regarding hits on the site, I thought I’d share a story about something that actually happened a couple of years ago. Buriram Times owner Hywel Williams, along with Peter Dempsey, also owns the Buriram Car and Motorcycle Rental company.
One morning it was noted that a motorcycle had gone missing overnight. Naturally, the police were summoned and were given a full description of the bike, along with the registration number.
Months passed, three in fact, and still no word from the police. Obviously, after such a long time the boys had given up all hope of seeing the bike again.
Then one day, Hywel’s wife was in town and was astonished to see the bike being ridden by a POLICEMAN ! She immediately went to the police station to see what was going on. Apparently, the day after the bike went missing, a shopkeeper near the bus station called the police to tell them that a motorbike had been parked outside his shop for over 24 hours.
The police duly arrived and took said bike away. When asked why a policeman was riding the bike, the reply was that he was taking the bike to have its tires checked before being returned ! Not only that, it was suggested that Mr Williams should take the police chief out for lunch as a reward for “solving the crime !”
However, Mr Williams declined, pointing out that the police had been well-rewarded already by having a hire bike for three months ,free of charge !!
As the title says, “Only in Thailand !”
