Sensational news emerged from Thunder Castle yesterday, with the announcement that Theerathon had requested to leave Buriram. This was not a great surprise as only last month he had reiterated his desire to play in Japan.
However, many Buriram fans will be bitterly disappointed that he has elected to join fierce rivals Muang Thong. Had he joined a foreign club to further his career, he would have gone with everyone’s best wishes and thanks for his immense contribution to Buriram’s success.
But now there will be a bitter taste in many people’s mouths that he is leaving when Buriram are not having the best of times . His talent and experience will be sadly missed as the battle to rediscover the form of the previous three seasons goes on. Theerathon has won every honour in the domestic game and he is captain of his country.
It is hard to fathom his reasons for making this move and it is one I think he may ultimately regret . Normally, I would wish him good luck but in this instance, I can’t bring myself to do so.
