“Sword” fight in street

Two Thai public taxi drivers got into a “sword” fight yesterday morning in the middle of the street near Assumption University in Bang Sao Thong district of Samut Prakan, the province neighbouring Bangkok.

Today, the dramatic footage shot by a witness from inside a car — accompanied by his narration and Thai country music blasting on the radio in the background — is going viral.

In the clip, two drivers — one with a big machete and the other with a large wooden stick — can be seen approaching each other from opposite sides of the road before taking violent swings at each other as a couple of shocked witnesses look on.

Unsurprisingly, the machete holder seem to have the advantage.

A few seconds later, a middle-aged woman wearing an apron, holding a long wooden stick, got in the middle of the two to stop the fight. Her boldness was enough to get another witness to jump in and help separate the pair.

Go, lady, go!

Fortunately (and somewhat amazingly), there were no injuries.

After interviewing locals, it was discovered that this particular area is, reportedly, a hotspot for cabbie fights as two companies are oten stationed outside the university. Feuds over student passengers are allegedly common.

Police are currently interrogating witnesses and have summoned both cabbies to mediate their case.
