In the early hours of yesterday, Thai law enforcement conducted a significant drug seizure when they intercepted a vehicle transporting around 2.54 million methamphetamine pills. The operation was led by the Thai Highway Police in Khon Kaen and resulted in the apprehension of a 31-year-old individual named Thanatchai, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
This arrest occurred on Highway 224, specifically between kilometre markers 26 and 27 in the Munchakhiri district of Khon Kaen. The police had received a tip-off about a suspected drug trafficking operation linked to a Laotian network that had plans to distribute drugs to Bangkok and central provinces.
Under the leadership of Police Lieutenant General Jiraphop Puridet, the police launched an investigation. They discovered that Thanatchai had been hired to transport the drugs for a fee of 50,000 baht, paid in cash. The drugs were initially picked up from the roadside in Bung Khla, Bueng Kan, with the intention of delivering them to Saraburi province.
The suspect’s vehicle, a Toyota Vios, was seen at a traffic light and was queued behind a police vehicle. Subsequently, the police followed the vehicle and eventually pulled it over for inspection, leading to the discovery of a substantial quantity of meth pills.
During questioning, Thanatchai admitted his involvement but claimed it was his first offense. However, the police maintained their skepticism and are continuing their investigation to identify all parties associated with the drug trafficking operation.
This successful drug bust operation is in line with the policy of Police Lieutenant General Jiraphop Puridet, who emphasizes proactive investigation and heightened vigilance in preventing and combating crime. This approach aims to enhance public safety by taking strict actions against illegal activities on the roads.
The arrested suspect and the confiscated drugs have been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Bureau for further legal proceedings.
